The Latest Hustle!
The last couple of weeks I have been working on lots of pet portraits. This process has shown me what it takes to be a full-time, pet portrait artist. I have nearly finished the 12 pet portraits I have set out to complete for my portfolio, and during this time I have realised that I do possess the determination and ability to paint well on demand. Although, It has been difficult working around my part-time job at my local hospital. This hasn’t put me off though! Here are some of the portraits that I have been working on recently…
I was very pleased to paint a Chameleon! I believe that all types of animals are as important as each other, and I want to reflect this with a diverse portfolio of pets! As you can see, I have experimented with numerous styles of Watercolour painting. I have really enjoyed practising painting very quick layers on top of wet paper and also painting intricate details on dry paper. The Bulldog portrait was painted in half a day and was the first time that I had just painted wet on wet paper. I think I prefer the mix of the intricate details with the more fluent style of painting. The right balance between these two aspects makes a pet portrait really charismatic. In my opinion I believe that this is because it makes the portrait ‘vibrate with life’.
